Friendliness Experiment

Howdy mates!

My school started physical lessons 3 weeks ago and I finally have a chance to do something I really wanted to do since coming to this new school.

I wanted to conduct an experiment to find out how friendly students are in SMK PUTERI TITIWANGSA. I realized that this is a very flawed experiment a week ago, but more on that later.

Intro

During the first three days of school, I tested to see if the students could see me (I’m on the second floor) from the corridor and to check what is still needed for the experiment. Whenever I saw someone, I’d just stare at them until they took notice of me. Then, I’d wave at them.

My classroom is on the second floor, the third room from the end.

This is an edited photo.

In the photo above, the green circle is my place (my classroom) and the red circle is the corridor where people walk by (mostly for visiting the toilet). Initially I couldn’t locate my seat and classroom from the outside, but then I saw the loudspeaker and I was like “Yeah, that’s my spot.”

The dreaded loudspeaker.
My ears hurt just from looking at it.

Everything was fine and normal on the first and second day. I waved at some students and a few waved back. The third day was when I realized that something is wrong.

Some students started to point at my direction (I think they were pointing at me) and saying some stuff.

On the fourth day, I decided to stop the experiment completely (but I sitll continued to wave at students), because of its many flaws and it makes me look like a weirdo.

The sheet is still clean.

Some of the flaws I found:

– You can’t really measure someone’s “friendliness” by this
– One doesn’t simply waves at strangers
– They might be too freaked out/shocked to react

The experiment wasn’t in vain though. I’d gotten a few smiles and laughs from a couple of students throughout the new school year (third week today). This morning during BM lesson, a student (I believe she’s a form 1 student) initiated a wave with me!!! I waved back and saw that her smile was very beautiful. It really made my day, what a sweet girl she was!

Now I don’t look out at the window as often as I used to and I turn my head away when I see someone walking by. Maybe I should continue to wave to them, because it might make someone’s day too :D.

Thanks for reading guys.
