First Day at the Puteri Islam Club

Howdy Friends!

My school had started extracurricular activies and today it was uniform bodies.

Around a week ago, I chose Pergerakan Puteri Islam (something like Girl Scouts, but Islam version) out of this list:

I found out that they had moved my name to Pergerakan Pandu Puteri (Girls Scouts) and felt a bit sad and confused, but I went to check-in at the surau (mosque) for the Puteri Islam club anyways.

I stood outside pryaing in my heart for a while then entered. TBH, when I stepped into the surau, the first thing I did was look around for non-Muslims. To absolutely no one’s suprise, I found none (well, apart from me).

I felt out of place, but then again, I’ve never felt “IN” of place ever since transferring to this school. Everyone looked at me with confusion and I was sarting to get confused too. I had thoughts like: “Is joining this club a good idea?”, “Am I even allowed in here?” and “Heck, what would they think of me?”

We started off by taking the attendance, reciting some vows and learning the Puteri Islam song.

Later, the teacher told us about the Puteri Islam clothings. Before the meeting ended, we had a brief discussion for ideas about what to put on the club bulletin board.

The club’s theme colour is pink. No idea why it’s pink, but I’m gonna find out why on our next weekly club meetings (IF they decide that I can stay). Being the only non-Muslim, I’m also the only one who’s not wearing a tudung. The teacher told me to buy a tudung and wear it on our next meeting.

When the students who aren’t in my club heard that I was in the Puteri Islam Club, most laughed while the others were filled with doubts. I wasn’t affected by them, of course. My biggest concern is whether I’ll be able to stay at the club or not and wondering if I would ever fit in. A girl in the club excitely waved at me and that really made my day.

Hopefully I won’t come off as disrespectful or just there to play. With time, I hope to express my sincerity and seriousness of my participation in the club.

As a reminder to myself, here are the reasons why I chose to join this club:

1) I wish to have more Muslim friends.

2) I would like to get to know about Muslims and Islam more.

3) I’m hoping that this will create some memorable memories in my last year of high school.

I hope that you guys would have an incredible experience in your repestive clubs.
